OVO, Kaluza, and GivEnergy have joined forces on a first of its kind solar and battery plan.
“Battery Boost” enables the intelligent top-up of solar batteries at greener, cheaper rates when solar generation is low. Batteries are charged at 10p per kWh during low-demand periods – around 60% cheaper than the standard variable electricity tariff.
“Battery Boost” offers an automated spin on flexible energy trading. The add-on automatically maximises the financial benefits of solar and battery storage for the customer – particularly on those days when the customer will struggle to fill their battery from solar. Using intelligent charging, “Battery Boost” automatically tops up the customer’s battery when grid energy is cheaper.
The benefits of “Battery Boost” are threefold:
🏷️ The customer can ensure maximum energy bill savings. When solar generation is low, the scheme enables the intelligent top-up of solar batteries at greener, cheaper rates.
🏘️ Customers can further their home decarbonisation mission. Charging their battery off-peak can mean they’re using greener energy.
🍃 Collectively, the combined effect of multiple Battery Boost connected homes running on greener energy, while being able to export to the grid under strain, helps make the UK less reliant on fossil fuels.
Dave Roberts, UK MD at GivEnergy, comments:
“We’re incredibly proud to join forces with OVO on such an empowering initiative. This level of collaboration between energy providers and energy technology manufacturers is something we urgently need more of if we are to end energy poverty and decarbonise the UK.
Next-generation smart add-ons like Battery Boost should sit at the heart of the modern low-carbon home. Ultimately, they help customers unlock the benefits of a grid system that is clean, affordable, and effortless to navigate.”

Battery Boost supports OVO customers with solar PV and a home storage battery to help save money.
Seamless integration between:
– GivEnergy software
– The Kaluza platform
– OVO’s energy rates
Ensures the smartest, cheapest management of the battery’s charge and discharge / export cycle.
So, the customer doesn’t have to programme their tech manually. Instead, the new Battery Boost offering means that customers get the best rates without hassle.

Scott Duncan, Head of Solar at OVO, comments:
“In the gloomy British winter, when you’re generating a lot less from your PV, you might not be fully charging the battery through the course of the day and making the most of your investment.
That’s the problem we set out to solve and today we’re incredibly excited to be giving our customers access to Battery Boost – giving customers 10p/kWh charging of their batteries, a c.60% discount on current price cap!
Through intelligent charging of batteries, we can shift consumption to cheaper and cleaner times on the grid (there can be up to 70% difference in CO2 per kWh in the space of a day in winter!) and we give customers a great reward in the process. Making their clean tech work better for them.”
Neel Gulhar, Chief Product Officer at Kaluza, comments:
“Empowering energy companies to innovate affordable low-carbon propositions is critical for building customer engagement in the energy transition. By leveraging home batteries when demand is high on the grid, Kaluza’s software is embedding customers at the heart of the system and making green tech ownership more rewarding.
The UK remains at the forefront of energy innovation and it’s exciting to be collaborating with OVO and GivEnergy on a service with game changing potential for markets across the world – driving decarbonisation at pace.”
