Just as home batteries are decarbonising residential buildings, commercial batteries are helping to decarbonise businesses of all shapes and sizes.
Commercial battery storage solutions can come with hefty price tags.
GivEnergy is changing this.

We’re breaking the entry barriers to commercial batteries, helping businesses to:
- Cut costs through savings on energy bills
- Cut carbon emissions by maximizing use of clean energy
What are commercial batteries?
As the name suggests, commercial batteries are battery storage systems designed to operate on a commercial, and even industrial level.
So, like a home battery but… well… bigger.
A commercial battery storage system comprises the following.
1. Battery storage unit
On a commercial and industrial level, this can range from a compact Commercial All in One to a large battery storage container.

2. Power conversion system (PCS)

This is the commercial equivalent of a battery inverter.
In short, the PCS converts DC electricity into usable AC electricity.
3. Energy management software (EMS)
Just like with home battery storage, the app and portal are the means through which users can monitor and control their commercial battery storage systems.
With or without solar
Like all battery storage systems, commercial batteries work best with renewable technology, such as rooftop solar panels.
Your business generates its own renewable energy, then has somewhere to store it for later use.
However, commercial battery storage systems also work as standalone battery storage systems.
You draw energy from the grid when prices are cheaper, such as at certain times on a time-of-use tariff. Then, during more expensive hours, you discharge your battery to power your business.
Thus, you avoid more expensive charges.
Why do we need to break entry barriers to commercial batteries?
The UK is legally obliged to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
According to provisional figures for 2023, UK industry accounts for around 13.74% of the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions.
Like with other sectors, industry needs to decarbonise, if we are to meet net zero goals.
From a broader perspective of corporate social responsibility (CSR), here are a few other reasons why we need to break entry barriers:
- 82% of UK consumers believe that businesses have a responsibility to protect the environment.
- Smaller businesses – who are less likely to invest in a commercial battery storage system – are a major source of emissions in the UK, accounting for 50% of all business-driven emissions.
- 76% of smaller businesses have yet to implement a decarbonisation strategy.
Beyond emissions, breaking down barriers would also make savings on energy bills for businesses more accessible.
- 37% of SMEs named energy bills as their top business challenge in 2024 – also making it the top of the list overall.
- 75% of SMEs said they have been negatively impacted by the cost of living crisis in 2024, up from 71% in 2023.
- 32% of consumers would be prepared to pay more for goods and services, if it ensured brands reduced their carbon footprint.
Priced out
Small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) are typically underrepresented in the commercial battery storage landscape.
Many SMEs are priced out, with typical battery storage solutions costing around £35,000 upfront.
(And that’s just for the battery components alone with solar PV panels.)
That needs to change…
Fortunately, the soon-to-be-released GivEnergy Commercial All in One comes in at… wait for it… £17,500 – roughly halving the price of a typical system.
Ultimately unlocking access to cheaper and cleaner energy for SMEs.
